Home from Florida training blues

What would you suggest for those athletes that have to go back to school and can't paddle for a month after going to Florida? Are there changes in the types of dry land workouts we should be doing in order to maintain our Florida gains without still being on the water?

Great question. This is a problem a lot of athletes face, young and old. When you can't get on the water, it's important to try to find a subsitute for the training you are missing. Paddling pool is great if you have one, or paddling machine is good too. The most important thing to do is to make sure you maintain the intensity of workouts that you were doing at training camp. You have to keep your body used to pushing itself to the max so that when you get back on the water you are ready to rock. Hard interval runs or swims will help keep your body primed for the hard work, and paddle pool or machine will keep those paddling muscles in shape.
