Dear Canoe4Canada: Training Diagram

Can you please describe one training from A to Z? (Like stretching, warming up, km on water, program and stuff) And whats you weekly training Load? (I have 2-2-1-2-2-1-0 for example)

Hello thanks for the keen question. Our training varies during the year depending on the proximity to competition and the season. The example of the training week you have provided would describe a regular week for us on the water during our peak of hard training. However, that describes only the on-water training, in addition we would normally have three weight training sessions and three runs. The amount of km's during that type of week would be in the 120 range, but it would vary a bit as well. Normally we tend to warm up for about 15 minutes on the water before starting any hard work, which is around 2 km. We also usually gather at the docks before practices and do some different stretching and warm-up before getting in the boat. We also stretch often after paddling practices, as it is a very physically demanding sport that often leaves muscles tight.

As we near competition, we taper significantly and the focus becomes quality on the water over quantity, and most often fewer on-water sessions as well. It often ends up being three practices on, followed by a half day off. This might not be A-Z, but I hope that gives you an idea of what we're up to.
